Mattel, AirConsole, and BMW Group Unveil UNO Car Party! for In-Car Gaming

Mattel, AirConsole, and BMW Group just announced something pretty cool: UNO Car Party! is coming to in-car gaming. Starting August 21, over 500,000 BMW and MINI vehicles will get this classic card game via an over-the-air update through AirConsole. The official reveal is set for gamescom 2024 in Cologne, Germany, where visitors can try it out in the new BMW X3.

If you’re stuck in a car during a road trip, UNO Car Party! is here to make those idle moments a lot more fun. Up to four people can join in, connecting their phones to the car’s infotainment system through AirConsole’s game controller system. The best part? Everyone can see their own cards on their phone while the main game plays out on the car’s screen. Just remember, the game only works when the car’s parked—no playing while driving!

Stephan Durach, BMW Group’s Senior VP of Development, mentioned that this is all about adding more value to the digital experience in their cars. “With the help of AirConsole and Mattel, we’re turning in-car gaming into a social experience. It’s exciting to offer a beloved game like UNO in such a new and innovative way.”

AirConsole’s CEO, Anthony Cliquot, pointed out how well UNO fits into this setup: “It’s a game everyone knows, and using your phone as the controller makes it super easy to play in the car. It’s something you just can’t do with a regular touchscreen or Bluetooth setup.”

Erika Winterholler from Mattel also shared her excitement: “UNO is perfect for in-car gaming—it’s engaging, easy to learn, and great for quick games or longer sessions. We’re thrilled to bring this fun, social game to people in such an innovative way with BMW and AirConsole.”

BMW and AirConsole have been working together since 2022 to bring games into cars, and UNO Car Party! is the latest in a growing list of titles. This is just another step in making your car a more entertaining place to be, turning every pit stop into a chance for some fun.

So, if you’ve got a BMW or MINI, get ready to play UNO!
